Verified Views (VVMs) case study

Verified views or VVMs (Visually Verified Montages) are often produced when there is strong opposition regarding the visual impact of a new development. By using survey information the CGI photomontage can be proven to be accurate. In this case RHVisuals were contracted to produce visual work in support of a development proposal for property adjacent to the Tate Modern Museum in London. One of the major objections to the scheme was that it would block out views of St Paul's from Great Guildford Street. RHVisuals produced a series of verified views (VVMs) showing how much of St Paul's Cathedral could still be glimpsed if the new development was built.

Photographs were taken on the area of Great Guildford Street which showed glimpses of St Paul's Cathedral through the gap between existing properties and the Tate Modern. A survey of coordinate points seen in each photograph enabled an accurate camera match. CGI photomontages were produced to show the visual impact of the new development on views of St Paul's Cathedral
